Our favorite is the Asus ZenBook S13 OLED which blends a modern aesthetic and impressive performance for both business professionals and students. It rivals some of the most popular laptop designs from any other manufacturer and can do just about anything well. It's not the best for gaming, though—that honor goes to the Asus ROG Zephyrus M16; or for more affordable gaming, the Asus TUF Gaming F15. But if those aren't for you, don't fret. We have some other excellent designs to pick from, too. Here are the best Asus laptops you can buy today.

Asus ZenBook S 13 OLED

Just Josh

CPU: Intel Core i7-1355U | RAM: 32GB LPDDR5 | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Storage: 1TB SSD | Display: 13.3-inch OLED | Resolution: 2,880 x 1,800 | Refresh rate: 60Hz | Battery: Up to 10 hours | Weight: 2.2 pounds

Best for: Everyday web browsing, office use and watching movies on a brilliant, sharp screen.

The Asus ZenBook S 13 OLED is a laptop that does exactly what it should do without weighing you down with unnecessary hardware. That keeps the price low and the battery life high. It has a thirteenth-generation Intel processor and it comes standard with a boatload of memory—32GB of DDR5 RAM—making it perfect for heavy multi-tasking and having as many browser tabs open as you want. To top it all off, it has a 2.8K OLED screen, so images look ultra crisp with inky blacks and vibrant colors. That makes this laptop the perfect tool for work, entertainment and content creation.

This laptop doesn't let you down elsewhere, either. The battery life gets you an average of 10 hours of mixed use, and at only two pounds, this laptop is super light and portable. It doesn't have a dedicated graphics chip, so while the onboard Intel Iris Xe GPU can handle very light casual gaming, it's not a great laptop for gaming. For anything else, though, this is a great laptop to get.

Pros:

  • Great performance
  • Crisp, vivid OLED display
  • Extremely light

Cons:

  • Lacks an onboard GPU for gaming

Asus Vivobook Go 14

VIDEO: Top 5 BEST Asus Laptops of (2023)
Top 5 Picks

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7320U | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Graphics: AMD Radeon | Storage: 256GB SSD | Display: 14-inch | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh rate: 60Hz | Battery: Up to 7 hours | Weight: 3 pounds

Best for: Homework, home office use and casual web browsing.

The Asus VivoBook Go is a lightweight, portable laptop with good performance in just about any task. Its screen doesn't get particularly bright, but at 1080p across 14-inches, the display looks detailed and crisp, whether you're watching a movie or reading an article. The CPU is an upgraded version of AMD's Zen 2 architecture, which is a few years out of date, but with a new process node, it's efficient and still powerful enough for everyday use. With four cores and eight threads, you can have plenty of browser tabs open at once.

The onboard Radeon GPU isn't powerful, but it has enough power for casual gaming and esports play. Its 256GB SSD is small, but it’s fast enough to give you a quick boot time and a fast wake up from sleep mode. The real perk with this laptop though is its low price. At less than $500, it's in Chromebook territory and it is far, far faster than they will be. Better yet, it has full access to Windows apps, so you can use Word and any other features you're used to.

Pros:

  • Cheap for a Windows laptop
  • Good performance despite dated hardware
  • Portable and relatively lightweight

Cons:

  • Lacks modern hardware
  • Small storage size
  • Bendy plastic chassis

Asus ROG Zephyrus M16

VIDEO: Asus Zenbook 14 & 14X - The BEST Laptop to Buy Right Now ... It's NOT even close
Just Josh

CPU: Intel Core i7-13900H | RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia RTX 4080 | Storage: 2TB SSD | Display: 16-inch | Resolution: 2,560 x 1,440 | Refresh rate: 240Hz | Battery: Up to 5 hours | Weight: 5.1 pounds

Best for: Playing all your games at the highest detail settings.

Th Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 is a gaming laptop that does everything well. It has high-powered hardware for playing all your favorite games at the highest of detail settings, a super high refresh rate for buttery smooth gameplay and all the storage space you need for your expansive game library. You may have noted that the GPU is not the most powerful one available—there is an RTX 4090 configuration if you want it—but the price leaps so high for that model and the thin-and-relatively-light design of this laptop means that the higher-end GPU just can't stretch its legs like we'd like. It’s better to save hundreds and get an almost-equal GPU.

The 16-inch display is incredibly bright, rated for over 1,100 nits at its peak, and though that does sap the battery, the rest of the hardware does a good job of reducing battery life, too. Don't expect more than a few hours of use between charges, and if you're gaming and don't have the charger handy, you'll drain the battery in less than two hours and won't get the full power of this laptop besides. For desk gaming though, the Zephyrus M16 is the best Asus gaming laptop available today.

Pros:

  • Top notch gaming performance
  • Lots of storage space
  • Super bright and fast screen

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Not as high-performing as the most expensive gaming laptops

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700H | RAM: 16GB DDR4 | Graphics: Nvidia RTX 4060 | Storage: 512GB SSD | Display: 15.6-inch | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh rate: 144Hz | Battery: Up to 10 hours | Weight: 4.9 pounds

Best for: Playing games at high frames rates at 1080p.

The Asus TUF 15 is all the gaming performance anyone needs to play just about anything. It has powerful internal hardware, a great build quality, a fast display, plenty of storage space and relatively-long battery life for a gaming machine. The 15.6-inch display is a great size for competitive play, especially with the 144Hz refresh rate which makes high FPS games look buttery smooth. It's not super bright and the colors aren't the most vibrant, but for casual play—especially if you turn down details to improve performance—that's not something you'll miss.

The CPU is a last-generation design, but the 12700H was high-end then, and still holds its own today. With 14-cores and a high clock speed, it has all the power you need for any game, and this is a much more powerful CPU than you'd typically get in a laptop of this price, especially when paired with a GPU like the Nvidia RTX 4060. That chip sports the latest-generation of Nvidia's RT and tensor cores, so has impressive ray tracing performance in compatible games as well as full support for DLSS 3 frame generation, giving it a massive FPS boost in compatible games.

Pros:

  • Great hardware for the price
  • Solid build quality
  • Impressive battery life

Cons:

  • Last-generation CPU
  • Display limited to 1080p

Asus Chromebook Plus CX34

CPU: Intel Core i5-1235U | RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 | Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics | Storage: 256GB UFS | Display: 14-inch | Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | Refresh rate: Unknown | Battery: Up to 10 hours | Weight: 3.2 pounds

Best for: Working on documents, casual web browsing and light image editing.

For those looking for the absolute best Asus Chromebook available, take a look at the Asus CX34. Asus’ most recent launch uses AI-powered features to enhance your video conferencing, from reducing background noise to improving the lighting on the Full HD camera.

The Chromebook comes with double the memory—256GB—and offers an impressive 16GB RAM for multitasking and light video editing. The latter works well with a partnership with Adobe, which brings Adobe Express to its ChromeOS. You can create social graphics on the Full HD 14-inch screen and share straight to your social channels, or use Google’s extensive software network to work in Google Docs, Sheets and more.

What our editors say: Tech Editor Rebecca Isaacs says, “During a hands-on with the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34, I got to see how fast and responsive the device was. I especially enjoyed being able to work with Adobe Express to work with—and with AI, generate—images.”

Pros:

  • Improved RAM and storage capacity
  • Built-in Adobe Express
  • ChromeOS easy to use

Cons:

  • Pricey for a Chromebook
  • Adobe Express requires a subscription

CPU: Intel Core i7-13900H | RAM: 16GB LPDDR5 | Graphics: Nvidia RTX 4050 | Storage: 1TB SSD | Display: 13.4-inch | Resolution: 2560 x 1600 | Refresh rate: 165Hz | Battery: Up to 10 hours | Weight: 2.9 pounds

Best for: Gaming on the go.

The 2023 version of the Asus ROG Flow Z13 has far more power under its hood than it has any right to. It sports the incredible Intel Core i9-13900H CPU, which is the kind of chip we'd see in high-end gaming laptops, not compact little 2-in-1s. But it does have it, and it's paired up with 16GB of fast DDR5 memory, a nippy SSD for fast boot and game load times, and a cutting-edge Nvidia RTX 4050 graphics chip. It's entry-level, but it's very modern, meaning that along with the advantage of a new architecture and process, this chip supports the latest DLSS 3 frame generation in compatible games, helping to really boost frame rates using the power of AI.

The display on this little device is very impressive, too. Its 1600P resolution looks really crisp and clear on a compact screen, and it is pantone validated, meaning it has excellent color accuracy and wide color gamut support. It's fast, with a 165Hz refresh rate helping you to make games look super smooth when the frame rate is high and it’s quite portable, weighing under three pounds. With a 10-hour battery life you can game to your heart's content wherever you go. Don't forget it can flip into a tablet, too, if you prefer touchscreen gaming.

Pros:

  • The fastest gaming 2-in-1 out there
  • Impressive portability for the hardware
  • High-quality display

Cons:

  • Lacks high-end GPU
  • Expensive

However, for more demanding tasks like video editing or gaming, opting for 16GB or more can ensure smooth multitasking and optimal performance.

How Does Storage Type (SSD vs. HDD) Affect The Overall Speed And Responsiveness Of Asus Laptops?

YFB Technology

The choice between SSD and HDD impacts the speed and responsiveness of Asus laptops. SSDs, which are significantly faster and more reliable, result in quicker boot times, faster application loading and overall snappier performance. In other words, if you’re using heavy applications, gaming, or doing any other speedy multitasking, an SSD is probably what you’re going to want.

HDDs, on the other hand, are great for storing massive amounts of data, but it comes at a cost of speed and performance. HDDs are also known for being more affordable than their SSD counterparts. For those who need the best speeds, we recommend opting for an SSD, while HDDs are suitable for users requiring larger storage capacities at a more affordable cost.

For an optimal visual experience, there are a few different features to consider. For starters, you want to review the resolution, refresh rate and color accuracy. Higher resolutions like Full HD (1920 x 1080) or higher will get you a great picture on-screen, making it great for gamers and those working with video editing.

For gamers and those working with video editing, you also need a higher refresh rate for gaming. Most laptops come with a minimum of 120Hz, but if you can find one with a higher rate (e.g., 144Hz), go for it. Color-accurate panels (e.g., IPS) are also essential for a vibrant and immersive visual experience on Asus laptops.
